Bay City’s VNO welcomes new owner
BAY CITY, MI — After nearly a decade in business, Greg and Peggy Kimbrue have sold VNO Wine Warehouse and New Age Restaurant and the attached Bay City Burgers & Beer on Midland Street.
“It’s just time. I’ve been at this so long. I’m going to miss the people more than anything. We’ll still own the River Rock, but it will be different,” said Greg Kimbrue, who has worked in the restaurant and wine industries for more than 50 years. “In nine and a half years, we’ve built a truly very successful business.”
Chris LaRocque is the new owner of the restaurants and wine shop, which are all connected and located at 512 and 510 Midland St. LaRocque, who also owns nearby Duso’s Bar, will be working in the restaurant for the next couple months, getting to know the business and the customers, before officially transitioning into the role of owner. He plans to run the business the way the Kimbrues have for the first year or so and implement some changes and new ideas later on.
“Greg has a really good clientele,” LaRocque said. “(I want to) get to know everybody, shake their hands, make them feel comfortable.”
“He’s going to do good things,” Greg Kimbrue added. “I think it will be a good transition.”
The Kimbrues announced their plans to sell the business via the VNO Wine Warehouse and New Age Restaurant Facebook page earlier this month. They plan to reduce the wine inventory by about 80% in the next couple of months, and a special sale started Monday with VNO’s entire stock of fine wine marked down 20%.
