Detail
One of the primary justifications for why Times Square is so well known is the sheer number of theatres along Broadway, in Lincoln Place, and in the Theater Region. Throughout the year, you can see award-winning plays and musicals.
The region is most active during yearly celebrations, particularly New Year’s Eve. Times Square got its name when its namesake paper, The New York Times, relocated to the structure (presently known as Multiple Times Square) in 1904. That was the year the city chairman of New York renamed Longacre Square after the paper; however, it took under 10 years for the Times to move once more.
In spite of the fact that there is no extra charge to enter the square or the festival region for New Year’s Eve, there are certain regions in Times Square that will expect guests to buy section tickets. The costs of those section tickets will vary from one spot to another.
Visit Times Square at 6 or 7 p.m., just before the Broadway performances begin, if you want to see it at its best. At this time, the crowds and lights will appear to be the biggest.
