EDITOR’S NOTE: NJ Cannabis Insider is hosting an in-person business networking event July 14 at The Asbury in Asbury Park. Tickets are limited.
New Jersey made history this week after the state cannabis regulatory board approved several medicinal marijuana dispensaries to open to adult consumers next week.
Weed lovers around the Garden State will celebrate 420 next Wednesday — the last April 20 before consumers can buy legally. And on June 9 and the cannabis business community will celebrate their accomplishments at the state’s first-ever cannabis business awards gala.
Last week, the cannabis industry voted who will be recognized as the best in their categories. The winners will be recognized during a summer gala, which will include a green carpet, entertainment and a rooftop afterparty at the Carteret Performing Arts Center.
There are three finalists in each category, acknowledging contributions in the fields of law, social equity, building, innovation and consultancy as well as businesses owned by women and minorities. Listed alphabetically, the nominees in their respective categories are:
Excellence in Cannabis Law:
Excellence in Commercial Building Operations:
Excellence in Consultancy and Professional Services:
Excellence in Healthcare and Life Sciences:
Excellence in Innovation:
Excellence in Social Equity:
Minority Business of the Year:
Women-owned Business of the Year:
In addition to these categories, individuals who have done outstanding work in the cannabis business community will be recognized by NJ Cannabis Insider with these awards:
Businesses in the cannabis space were nominated for their achievements by subscribers of NJ Cannabis Insider, a weekly trade journal and events group produced by the NJ Advance Media newsroom, which powers NJ.com and The Star-Ledger, among other affiliated newspapers. Six nominees from each category were then put up for a vote for 10 days.
“For years, we’ve been documenting the progress the state has made in creating this new industry,” said Enrique Lavin, publish and editor of NJ Cannabis Insider. “Now it’s time to recognize and document the achievements made by individuals and companies in the space.”
