SAGINAW, MI – The Saginaw Soup Pitch Competition is back Monday, Nov. 1, and this year residents can vote to choose their own winner.
The competition is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at the CMURC office space upstairs in the SVRC Marketplace, located at 203 S Washington Ave. Local entrepreneurs will pitch small business ideas to a panel of judges, with thousands in cash prizes on the line to make that idea a reality. SVRC vendors will provide free samples for guests.
The first-place winner will receive $2,000, the second will receive $1,000, and third place will receive $1,000 worth of services from last year’s winner, Latrice Goodwine, who founded the financial advisory firm Girl, What’s In Your Purse? The “people’s choice winner” with the most audience votes will receive the total amount collected from $5 entry fees, according to a news release from the city of Saginaw.
Several Saginaw County governments, community organizations and sponsors have collaborated to hold Saginaw Soup since 2015, when the first grand prize total was $500.
“Saginaw Soup works to inform entrepreneurs and visionaries of the resources that are available to help develop their business idea,” Saginaw Future Business Development Manager Cassi Zimmerman said in the release. “Whether they just need information, consulting, or capital to get their business off the ground, the resources are plentiful.”
