Punjab govt approves 257 new posts for South Punjab Secretariat – Pakistan Today

LAHORE:  The Punjab government has approved 257 new posts in the health and education sectors to enhance the capacity of the South Punjab Civil Secretariat.
According to details, the provincial finance department has approved the budget for 71 seats from grade 1 to 21 in the department of specialized healthcare and medical education, 74 seats in the department of primary and secondary healthcare, 59 seats in the school education department and 53 seats in the higher education department for South Punjab Civil Secretariat.
A briefing on recruitment in the South Punjab Civil Secretariat was organised by the provincial finance department on Monday and Provincial Finance Minister Makhdoom Hashim Jawan Bakht gave a briefing on the development works and recruitment in the South Punjab Secretariat.
Bakht informed that the decision of new recruitment for the South Punjab Secretariat was taken to improve the delivery of services in the region.
“If the problems of government employees are solved at their doorstep, their performance will improve. The health department of South Punjab will ensure the attendance of doctors in the hospitals and the education department will ensure the attendance of teachers in the schools. With the establishment of the South Punjab Civil Secretariat, the problems of the Punjab government employees will be solved in their own area, the burden on the Punjab Civil Secretariat will be reduced and its performance will be improved,” he said.
The minister added that the reasons for the absence of teachers in schools and doctors in hospitals of South Punjab were problems related to their jobs, for which they used to stay in Lahore for several days.
He further said that the day-to-day administrative affairs of the departments were severely affected by the distance from the Secretariat whereas the establishment of the South Punjab Secretariat will be instrumental in resolving all such issues.
During the briefing, Punjab Finance Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo informed the provincial minister that Rs182.012 million and Rs123.350 million have been allocated by the provincial finance department for appointments in the department of specialized healthcare and medical education and department of primary and secondary healthcare, respectively.
Sahoo added that an amount of Rs184.55 million has been allocated for the school education department and Rs126.940 million for the higher education department, which will be temporarily released under the technical supplementary grant.
