New type of scam call to Chelan County business includes murder threat – NCWLIFE News

by Arifa Rana

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said a scam call a business recently received doesn’t appear to have any purpose other than to “scare the heck out of the business’s employees.”
The sheriff’s office said Saturday that a caller to a business claimed they were with a Mexican cartel and were in the parking lot outside with someone who had a gunshot wound.
The caller first demanded medical supplies, then that the business empty their cash registers and meet someone at the local grocery store, the sheriff’s office said.
The caller, using a fraudulent out-of-state phone number, then threatened to shoot up the business and kill everyone inside if their demands weren’t met.
After a search of the area, deputies determined the threats were unfounded.
The sheriff’s office said in the event that you receive a threatening scam call, “please call 911 so that we can investigate the claims and ensure the surrounding areas are safe.”
