Joshua Myers is the new chief of the Fredonia Fire Department.
Fredonia’s Board of Trustees voted Monday to hire the Buffalo man, previously chief of Seneca Hose Co. No. 1 in the town of West Seneca.
Myers was sworn in by Village Clerk Annemarie Johnston immediately after the vote.
Uniformed Fredonia Fire Department employees temporarily crowded the Village Hall meeting room to show support and congratulate Myers. He left with them immediately after taking his oath of office with Johnston and did not make any remarks.
Myers will make $100,000 a year, and his first day on the job is Monday. He will get an additional $5,000 per year when he passes a civil service test.
Before Myers was hired, Fredonia’s fire chief position was vacant for more than a year.
The last day for previous chief Ryan Walker was April 4, 2021.
Fredonia thought it had hired a Maryland resident, Jason Tarbell, for the job in October. However, he backed out.
First Assistant Chief Kurt Maytum acted as interim chief before Myers was hired.
